【發現一本好書 -- 張湘君教授選讀】《Charlie Chooses》

人生就是不斷在做選擇，但是有些人不論面對大、小選擇時都下不了決定，或決定後即反覆更改，期待別人能給自己做决定，且常伴有過度擔心、臉紅、手抖、緊張不安等「選擇恐懼症」症狀。台灣有精神科醫生宣稱，近年來患有「選擇恐懼症」的兒童個案趨增，家長應及早正視，並於童年時期就將它根治。

手邊的這本《Charlie Chooses》正是兒童患有「選擇恐懼症」的個案寫照。

小男孩Charlie有選擇焦慮的傾向，從冰淇淋要選甚麼口味?巧克力還是香草？要穿條紋的小褲褲還是點點的？晚上睡覺要關燈還是開燈？他總是害怕做錯決定要承擔後果。

Charlie連生日要什麼禮物都顯得猶豫不決，他還找書來提供生日禮物的點子。

Poor Charlie. He knew he would never be able to choose a present for his birthday, so he did a very sensible thing and looked in a book. The book was full of ideas ...a banana, a racing car, a firefighter outfit, an ant farm, a teddy bear, a bucket, a wobbly jelly, a button, a pair of socks . . .

Charlie坐在公園長椅凳上想啊想的。突然有一張動物收容中心的宣傳單子迎面飛過來…他拿起來一看，有了要隻狗當生日禮物的想法。於是他來到了動物收容中心，發現這裡有各式各樣的狗，長的、短的、小的、毛毛的……只是選擇太多了，Charlie又煩惱了起來。

突然間有隻黑白點點的小狗直接撲進他的懷裡，解決了他無法選擇的難題，Charlie很開心，當場決定生日禮物就是牠了！

從此以後，當Charlie生活中又出現選擇障礙時，這隻小狗狗直接幫他做決定，讓選擇不再是個難題。

很多小孩子之所以不敢選擇，就是害怕自己會失敗。因此當孩子出現了選擇困難症的時候，家長可適當的進行親子遊戲，促進孩子多方面的思維，並鼓勵孩子勇敢地作出選擇，有了父母的鼓勵孩子會更有信心。

當孩子能夠學會不怕失敗，並且享受失敗的時候，孩子自然也就會不再懼怕選擇。
